Metal stamping molds can be divided into three categories based on their different characteristics
Firstly, according to the deformation characteristics of materials, they can be classified into cutting dies, punching dies, cutting dies, cutting dies, edge cutting dies, bending dies, deep drawing dies, forming dies, embossing dies, cold extrusion dies, etc.
Secondly, according to the nature of the process, there are punching dies, bending dies, deep drawing dies, and forming dies. A punching die is a mold that separates materials along closed or open contour lines. A bending die is a mold that produces bending deformation of sheet metal blanks or other blanks along a straight line (bending curve), thereby obtaining workpieces with a certain angle and shape.
Thirdly, according to the degree of process combination, there are single process molds, composite molds, and progressive molds. A single process mold is a mold that completes only one stamping process in one stroke of a press. A composite mold has only one workstation, which is a mold that completes two or more stamping processes simultaneously at the same workstation during one stroke of the press.
A progressive die (also known as a continuous die) has two or more stations in the direction of raw material feeding. During one stroke of the press, the die completes two or more stamping processes at different stations in succession.
The materials used in the manufacturing of metal stamping molds include steel, hard alloys, steel bonded hard alloys, zinc based alloys, low melting point alloys, aluminum bronze, polymer materials, and so on. At present, the majority of materials used to manufacture stamping molds are steel. The commonly used types of mold working parts materials include carbon tool steel, low-alloy tool steel, high carbon high chromium or medium chromium tool steel, medium carbon alloy steel, high-speed steel, base steel, as well as hard alloys, steel bonded hard alloys, and so on.
